Next we flew over to Hilo to visit the Big Island. We stayed in an amazing VRBO house in Volcano, HI. The backyard was like a rainforest, complete with a hot tub, sauna, fire pit, and a fish pond. It also had a shower that was surrounded by windows, which we named “the nudist shower”.
The house was located about 20 minutes from Volcanoes National Park. We saw steam coming out of the Kilauea Caldera, the Hōlei Sea Arch, and a whole lot of lava (which Claire said looks like brownie batter).
