We all recovered from COVID last month and Ben went back to school, but Claire has been having a lot more stomach problems. She missed 21 days last semester due to strep, mono, and stomach issues, and the school nurse has been recommending for a while that she switch to E.B. Wilson High School. We also found out that Claire will not be allowed to attend Gallatin High next year anyway due to zoning changes, so she and I went over to E.B. Wilson to get more information.

The principal and staff there are wonderful. They interviewed us and looked at Claire’s records and told us she was accepted if she wanted to come. We toured the school and found out how it works, and it seems like the perfect solution for Claire right now. She decided that she wanted to try it this semester, so they transferred her there which erased her absences for the entire school year and her grades so far for this semester. She is starting over with a clean slate.

She is taking the same classes as before, and attends a 3-hour session on Mondays and Wednesdays with her teachers. The rest of the time she works on assignments at home on her own using Edgenuity. The class sizes are small which lessens her chances of catching every germ like she did at the big crowded high school. She can choose which sessions/days she attends, which helps if she’s feeling sick on a particular day. She can bring snacks and go to the bathroom whenever she needs to, and it’s all very flexible as long as she gets her work done. She has already made some friends there and so far she likes it. She will decide in a few months if she wants to stay there for 10th grade, or try to go to Liberty Creek High this fall.

We visited her GI doctor yesterday and she increased her Prilosec dosage, gave us another medicine to also try, and scheduled Claire for another endoscopy in a few weeks. But we’re thinking this is still gastroparesis from the stomach surgery, and there’s doesn’t seem to be much they can do to help with that.
