Claire started 10th grade today at the brand new Liberty Creek High School. The building is really nice, but is still not finished, so they are phasing in the students by grade this week. She said there are entire hallways that are blocked off because of the construction, and several of the classes are out in the field house. There aren’t enough desks or chairs yet for everyone, and the A/C doesn’t work in half of the rooms. James, being a construction project manager, thinks this is a train wreck and can’t believe they were allowed to have people in the building at all this week.

This semester Claire is taking Spanish I, English II, Culinary Arts, and Business & Marketing, and next semester she is taking Spanish II, Geometry, Biology I, and Visual Art. She likes all of her teachers. Her Culinary Arts teacher is a professional chef and is going to show them how to bake pies next month (after the kitchen is finished being built). In Business & Marketing they are going to create a business and learn how to market it, including designing and selling merch. Claire is excited to have the opportunity to become Adobe-certified (she wants to be a graphic designer).

She didn’t know many of the kids, but found a friend from middle school and got inducted into her group at lunch. They all love anime and video games and plan to start a gaming club. She texted me today and said “I found the nerds!”

She also got her learner’s permit last week and has been practicing driving around our neighborhood.
