This month Claire got her braces off. On the way home I took her by Walgreens to buy some gum, and then later her Uncle Chris mailed her a giant tub with 300 pieces of Dubble Bubble. She is set now.
I had a birthday — 45! That weekend we went downtown again to meet up with my brother Dave and his girlfriend Amoy. They flew in from New York so that she could meet the family. On my actual birthday, which was on a Wednesday, James brought me flowers and took me out for sushi after work.
Both kids have been sick with mono. Claire missed a week of school but has recovered. Poor Ben has been down for three weeks and is still having bad headaches. The pediatrician said for some people mono lasts a long time. The attendance clerk at his school said that she has seen students out with mono for eight weeks. He may have to go on homebound since he has missed so much school and is still feeling terrible. I keep hoping he’ll turn the corner.
He got a bit of a reprieve from school this week due to the weather. They closed school today and tomorrow because of an ice storm that’s rolling through.
