For Labor Day weekend we rented a cabin in Gatlinburg. We left after work/school on Friday and arrived on top of the mountain at night, trying to find our cabin in the dark on steep, winding, narrow roads. We were all relieved when we finally made it there, especially Ben, who at one point asked “Can we just get a hotel instead?” and said that the roads had an “evil essence”.

The next morning everything looked a lot less scary. Although, James did see a bear on our street scavenging for food.

After making pancakes for breakfast, we packed a picnic lunch, dropped the top on the Jeep and drove around the mountains a bit, exploring some trails and streams.

On Sunday James got up early and went off to do some “real hiking” on his own. The kids and I slept late and hung out at the cabin, playing pool and foosball, rocking on the porch, and soaking in the hot tub. I also brought a bag of yarn projects with me to work on.

We went home on Monday morning, but stopped by the sign to get a picture on our way out.
