I took the kids downtown to the eye doctor today. Ben is way overdue for new glasses, and picked out a pair of black frames.

Claire also needs glasses, primarily for reading, and picked out this roundish pair. (I really need to trim her bangs!)

She’s had a blocked/infected tear duct for over a week now. The pediatrician prescribed her an antibiotic pill and some ointment, but underneath her right eye is still swollen and sore. The eye doctor looked at it today and said to use warm compresses and to stay on the antibiotic for another day or two, but if there is still no improvement to call him and he will switch her to a different antibiotic. He wants to recheck her swollen eye next Friday when we pick up their new glasses.

Visiting doctors during a pandemic is an interesting experience. We all wore masks (the kids took theirs off when they were having their eyes checked and when trying on glasses). When we arrived outside the door to the office I called the nurse, and she let us in and took our temperatures, then escorted us straight back to our exam room. We didn’t see any other patients around anywhere. When it came time to pick out glasses, we tried to limit our choices because each pair that we touched had to be disinfected afterwards.
